Mary - This has come up in discussions before and may be something we visit in the future. One restriction we have in Philly is the small infill lots. Most lots would not accommodate a one story house much larger that 700 square feet which is why 2+ story townhomes are the norm.

Outside of the tight infill restriction, this problem could be solved much easier and should...

How about a $100K house that is all on one level and designed to accomodate the disabled?

The $100K figure is hard construction costs only. It includes my builder's fee but does not include the land cost or any soft costs such as taxes, architect fees, permits..

I'm in the process of doing a major renovation of a rowhouse that I just bought in DC and have been wanting to get it LEED certified and keep the budget around 100K so I love your site. One question - does your budget include the costs of your builder, architect, etc. or are those above and beyond your 100k budget?

Something like that. This has actually been a point of discussion recently. Should there be a 100K house or variation of it that is three stories at all? A big part of the "brand" is to reduce one's lifestyle and live more minimally in a smaller space.

Should there even be a 2,000 sf 100K House? I'm not sure.

Sounds like quite the undertaking sir. If I didn't know you better I would say "impossible", but you are a persistent fella.

This is encouragement and a comment test. Enjoy.
