It appears as though there are two slightly different stairs being depicted. One that is 4' wide with a gap between the wall and the treads/risers. And a 3' wide stair that abuts the wall. Which is the chosen design?

Also does the handrail as shown meet code? I am not entirely familiar with residential code but I thought that handrails had to be completly graspable, meaning the cross section must be of sufficient size to have a hand wrap complete around it, typically code gives the pertinent dimensions.

And it seems that there are two options for the risers, one solid and one partial open(is that code compliant)? Also does the plywood wall act as a skirt board that covers the ends of the treads and risers, or are they exposed?

Sorry for the seemingly pickyness of the details, I just really like this stair and think that some of these details could really make this stair a true work of art.

Yes, the stair wall is finalized. We are going to build it exactly as depicted in the sketches for the 100K House. The clients for the 120K want a drywall stair wall like our renderings.

I love seeing process sketches, and some of these are just great. Its also very interesting to see the stairs with a more clear understanding. Have they been finalized?
